Effects: Curtain Spirit The Effect:As guests walk past a window, they are startled by something pounding on the other side. Behind a billowing curtain, they can make out a figure silhouetted against a strobe light. How It Works: a fan blows the window curtains while a person on the other side pounds the glass when guests walk by. The lighting and timing of this simple effect make it effective. The billowing curtain and combined with the strobe light obscure the figure enough so that guests cannot clearly make out any features other than the hands when they are pressed against the window. This gives the scene a ghostly feel, as a shadowy mass appears to materialize and then dissolve back into darkness when the window is hit. Materials:
Preparation and Presentation: It may take some experimentation to get the fan where it will create some movement in the curtains. The window should be a large one near where your guests will be walking. Adjust your strobe light to a slow speed and pound against the window in a ghostly manner as guests approach. Hitting the glass with an open hand gives the best silhouette. Back |
