Welcome To My Home...
September 9, 2002The Weakest Link I'll warn you: I'm just writing this for the sake of updating the site. Really, nothing of interest has happened. (In the future, you can probably just assume this is the case). I'm a bit depressed again. I'm going to need to get some friends soon if I want to make it through college. Right now, I'm just feeling horribly out of place. I really can't relate very well to any of my suitemates. Musical taste is obvious. Nobody was expecting a match there. But short of the fact that we all go to the same college, I've yet to find much that I have in common with anybody. Movies, TV, hobbies, interests... the dissimilarities between me and the general populous can halt even the most dedicated attempts to start a conversation. "So, have you seen Austin Powers 3?" "Eh. No. Not a big Austin Powers Fan." "Oh. Hmm." "Which music video do you think will take the VMA's?" "I couldn't tell you." "Do you watch tennis much?" "Not really." I feel like I'm on one of those stupid TV shows and everyone's about to vote me off at the end of the episode. None of my suitemates are ever home, so I'm always just sitting around in an empty apartment. And when somebody else is home, he's either got a whole group of friends over, or is playing loud music (actually, loud bass to be more accurate), or doing something that makes me wish he would just leave again. You should understand that most of the people in the residence halls live within a half-hour from home, so they are still basically in touch with former friends. Everybody leaves with their respective groups of close friends to see a rock concert or go clubbing or do something else that I personally have no interest in and would decline even if invited, while I stay back updating websites and such. On a completely unrelated note, you may remember my mentioning the cell-phone phenomenon here at college. Well, it turns everyone is just talking to each other. Really. A couple nights ago, I decide to get something to drink from the kitchen. Opening my door, I find some guy standing in the hall outside Bryan's room. He's holding a cellphone up to his ear while simultaneously talking to Bryan through the door: "Dude! Pick up your phone!" ![]()
September 9, 2002Poor Guy Poor guy. I'm sure there's someone out there who likes real-time strategies, movie soundtracks and juggling... hrm... maybe it's about time for you to buy a cell phone. Perhaps that's the key to friendships around there. "Hi, my cell phone number is 383-555-8381." "Hey there, nice to meet you. I'm 381-555-3818." "Cool, let's have lunch sometime!" "Sure!" -Victor
September 10, 2002I'm Good Ricky came in tonight and announced: "Hey, I just got Warcraft 3. It's really good." Yeah it is. Anyway, that could be something. Also, I went to the mall with Jared, and that was pretty cool. It turns out that he has an unnatural interest in the macabre, too. Perhaps we'll go to Knott's Berry Farm sometime once they start their Halloween thing. He says that that's usually really well done. ![]()
September 11, 2002I Feel Loved Thanks, Mom, for the Virtual Flower Bouquet. Very cute. I've put it in my virtual vase. Now I'm virtually content. ![]()
September 12, 2002Virtual Flowers Hey, virtual flowers are nice any time of the year right? Ahh well, at least they won't wilt on you because you forgot to water them. I bet that with a little Photoshop work, you could make some really freaky looking flowers too! Or in my case, you could just send it through a chrome filter.... -Victor |
