I'm Trying to Study!
It's the weekend again. The time during which should be the highlight of my college week. If it weren't for my history exam on Monday, that is. At least for this test, I know pretty much exactly what to expect (or, in theory, I will know exactly what expect) - my teacher takes questions directly from a study guide which (due to an apparent oversight by the publisher who won't have the printed version ready for still some time) was handed out on CD-ROM free of charge. This is a good thing - it means I don't need to by another book for history - but there are some inherent drawbacks to the solution.

After about an hour of messing with settings and restarting my computer, I got the darn thing to install. The stupid guide has some sort of spiffy formatting to give it an Encarta-style look, and needs to (for who knows what reasons) mess with and add a whole load of .dll files to the system. After this wonderful growing experience I open the massive, 24 meg entity that I have just unleashed upon my computer. Browsing to the relavent section of the study guide, I find that, to my great surprise, there is no scroll-bar which would normally allow one to read past the 23rd line of text. So, with some additional effort, I exported the whole mess into HTML files, whipped up a little index page, and had a functional study guide in the format in which it should have originally been distributed.

Then it was time to take a quick, ten minute jaunt over to the library to print the sucker. Twenty minutes later, I returned to my room having made a mental note that the library closes early on Saturdays. Since nobody appears to be around, and my printer is lacking a power cable, I decided to retreat to the comfort of my website while I determine a plan of action.

I have been going home pretty regularly every other week so far. I'm not sure if I'll be coming home next weekend again, but it's looking like I might - if only to stop in and grab my printer's power cable, or dig up our old dot matrix, obtain a typewriter, find an adding machine... or bring something up here with the ability to produce patterns of ink on paper.

For now, though, I need to study... somehow.

Another Mental Note:
The library opens late on Sundays.

Luckily, I only needed to wait about ten minutes for the Titan Shop to open, though. Which brings me to my question: How untrustworthy do I look? The cashier used one of those make-sure-the-bill-is-real markers on my one dollar bill. Like I'm going to print up fake money to illegally purchase a pack of index cards and a ruler. Then I'd run back to my room, laughing at the shortsighted fools, while I planned my next big heist.
