Things That Move
Why do people feel the need to walk up the escalators? There are three other flights of stairs that one could take. All of these alternatives, due to their wider construction that accomidates more than one person at a time, can let a person ascend to the upper floors of the building much quicker than if he had decided to funnel himself through the constrictingly narrow, upward-moving walkway. I take the escalator so that (being the naturally lazy person I am) I don't have to walk or physically propel myself upwards in any way. That is, until the shoving and general excitment being generated behind me gets me to begin trudging upward with the rest of the group. That must be why I'm always 4 and a half seconds early to class - it's that extra time I saved by walking up the escalator.

The same thing goes with cars. It does you, as a driver, absolutely no good to pass and cut me off if there's another car waiting at the stoplight 400 meters ahead. This is common sense. I see why people might want to pass me, and that's fine. I don't drive fast, and I know you want to. But for your own sake, do it in a way that doesn't make you look like a complete idiot.

Then there's the other side of the scale: people that drive even slower than I do, and manage to do it completely erratically. For instance, don't change into a faster lane if you still plan on going 55 mph. And certainly don't make a conscious effort to pass somebody if you have no intention of ever going half the speed that he was.

That's all for now. I had a nice drive back.

The Near Future
This is what the world has been waiting for. Sharp has developed (drumroll, please...) a 3D LCD monitor display. Mere words alone cannot even begin to express how incredibly cool it would be if these things became common-place... but it'd be cool. Incredibly cool.

And then, just as you start to gain hope for our future in technology, you read about the rising popularity of one of the dumbest ideas you've ever heard. I know historians are going to look back on our society and laugh out loud. And then they'll look over and see that their dogs are laughing at us, too.

The second trailer for The Lord of the Rings II: The Two Towers premiers tonight on AOL. You can, however, download it now from the link provided at Dark Horizons. If anyone recognizes the awesome music that starts playing about half way through the trailer after Howard Shore's Fellowship score, by all means, share.

UPDATE: The Two Towers trailer uses Music by Clint Mansell from the movie Requiem For A Dream.

Raymond is cool
Raymond is cool
No he doesnt drool
He reads Lord of Rings
I have never heard him sing
With Jared he shares a room
And he does not do shrooms
Raymond as talked to me on phone
Even if it was a shy tone
He is still really neat
and he got cool bed sheets!

-Love, Steph (random Jared's friend)

That would be me...
That would be me walking up those escalators. If you haven't noticed, the big city has made everyone feel as if they're in one gigantic, ever-present rush. Time is money, and money is power. And we lust for money. To run up past you guys is to say, "we have a purpose, we have a destination, we are needed, and we are going to make more money than you poor shlubs; please move aside." We think this even if all we need to do is get to the nearest Starbucks so we don't have to wait in "as long" of a line. In most big cities, people standing on a escalator are required to stand to the right, those moving, move on the left.

And that would be me passing you on the road as well. Unless there's a car in front of you, lane one is 75 mph, lane two is 70. Unless I'm in a rush, I'm not likely to pass if you're driving these speeds. 65 mph was back when most cars couldn't stop in less then five seconds from 55 mph; it's too slow. As for cutting in at the last second before a light, sometimes we need to be in your lane to make a turn or onramp. It's practically impossible in hard traffic to merge right before one, so we'll take whatever opening we get.
And as for driving too slow... gosh... if YOU think they're driving too slow, they probably shouldn't even be on the road...

Missed!
What's up with Exile getting a console release before DVD? On the bright side, this at least means that the pinheads over at Ubi haven't completely forgotten about it.

The Two Towers trailer is now available for download in big-size.

For those who are counting, we're up to 4.7 GHz now.

My music section has been updated. Check it out for some nice sheet music or something. I'll be adding more periodically.
