Welcome To My Home...
October 10, 2002Back to Life Life waits for no one. It's true. So I decided to briefly touch on what's been going on the last week while I've been... preoccupied. We had an evacuation the other day in Speech class. Some sort of fire alarm or something, I'm still not sure. What I do know is that if there had been any real danger, our entire class would've been in trouble. It was still about five minutes before class, and Dr. Lowrie hadn't arrived yet, but most of the students were there. We were all just sitting there, half asleep, waiting for her to come. I had half a mind to ask if anyone else heard a faint but irritating, high-pitched buzz but, for whatever reason, just decided to ignore it. About ten minutes later, someone popped her head in the door. "Um... I think we're supposed to evacuate." So we went outside to see a fire truck, and some firemen, and... us. We must have been the only people in the building at the time, because there was seriously nobody else out there. I remember grade school evacuations where we'd walk out to the field and half the city would already be there. I'd run into people who I hadn't seen in years during those fire drills. It's like, "Wow! You still go here!" and then I'd be shoved along into the next mass of students. Anyway, there was nothing like that here. It was just the thirty of us standing alone in the parking lot, simultaneously pondering the physical possibility of sleeping while standing up and watching the firemen stand around chatting about something, I assume, of extreme importance. Apparently, they were able to resolve the situation; the firemen left after about ten minutes, and we all meandered back to class. Things sure are different here. My music class has finally made it out of the Middle Ages and Rennaisance periods. So, although the teacher is still as boring as ever in his lectures, I at least like the music we're listening to a great deal more, now. And the stuff we're learning is the most interesting yet. I'm going to the University joint Wind Ensemble/Band concert tonight. That's going to be the subject of my first concert report for the class. I'm somewhat thankful that my professor's concert wasn't the one that's tonight (the most convenient to attend). It'd be kind of intimidating to write my first concert report about his own orchestra. The writing assignment aside, though, this should be cool. It's my first concert I'll have been to beyond high school level. Current history topic: How did Buddhist philosophies change as they were introduced into Chinese culture? It looks like this one's sticking, since I need to eventually choose something and stay with it. I've found at least a couple good internet sources already. Although I was starting to get a bit overwhelmed. There is so much information available on Buddhism that it is difficult to focus on just one specific aspect. ![]()
October 10, 2002For Your Amusement I will be going to Sea World's Terrors of the Deep sometime this month. That's a definite. If you would like to join me, I can get you a ticket for $34.50 through the Titan Student Union, but that's the best I can do (Sea World, unfortunately, doesn't offer a great discount). These tickets may sell out. If you want to go after 6:00pm, they'll let you in for $17.95. It's a very cool experience, though. They've got some haunts set up, and decorations all over the place, and zombies walking around, and so forth. Oh yeah. And they have marine animals, too, I believe. Also, I would very much like to go to Knott's Scary Farm the weekend of October 19/20 or 26/27. The TSU offers a decent discount for that, so I can get tickets for $23.50. Those will sell out. I need to buy them (it looks like) about a week in advance. Jared says they usually do a very good job, but it's looking like he will not be joining us. I've found a few links that might be of interest to the serious gamer:
Someone who I don't know on WinMX actually started to download (on his own accord, mind you) my Halloween 2001 haunt walkthrough video... but he was disconnected. Argh! Imagine my agony. So, so close. And I didn't even need to rename it as porn, as Victor suggested. The guy actually wanted "Halloween Haunt 2002 - Complete Walkthrough - Raymond's Halloween Website.avi" ...That wouldn't happen to have been any of you guys, now... would it? By the way, if you do want that file, I can get it to you relatively simply, provided you've got a good internet connection. It's about 55 megs. I'll even burn it and send it to someone if you ask nicely. It looks like I'll be coming home this weekend. I seem to be getting my homework situation pretty much under control. ![]()
October 12, 2002The closest thing... The closest thing I got to a fire drill was Walter's damn battery operated alarm clock. You try finding something that emits a damn siren in the dark at 6:00 am on a Saturday. By the time I was able to figure out where it was and how to turn it off, my entire suite was up. Anyway, firedrill kicked butt, especially during Spanish. We would take our damn time walking to and from the field which was almost completely across campus. So many students would just ditch, hide in the back of the tennis courts, or make a run for the bathroom. I usually took advantage of it to grab my Spanish book that I left in my locker. Of course, in Spanish, we would take full advantage of any possibility to waste time... the most horrible of them being after a guy did anuncios in the beginning of class. We'd just sit there and clap... and clap... and clap. For literally minutes on end. The teacher couldn't do anything about it because the clapping was too loud. Eventually people shifted from clapping to cracking up because of how much the class universally wanted to waste time. Always a good fifteen minutes to do anuncios : ) -Victor
October 12, 2002About Knott's Scary Farm... About Knott's Scary Farm, my roommate says that it's definitely worth going to. So count me in. Gonna have to pass on sea world though, sorry. Oh, and for the Halloween 2001 haunt video, so maybe porn might be a little over the top... but how about a little fudging? Like:
October 12, 2002An Update of Sorts Fully five different people on five different occasions have attempted to download that file from me over the two days that I've had it shared (I'm completely dumbfounded). One user tried (unsuccessfully, unfortunately) six times. I have been unable to message any of them, though, and none of them have been able to successfully download the whole video. And really, do I want to advertise my site to those dumb enough to think an entire movie can fit in 62 megs? And more importantly, do I want to recieve mail from these people when they realize they've been duped? If anyone else would like to go to Knott's Scary Farm, let me know soon. We need to lock a date. Also, I need to know if you can get a discount through your Student Union or if I need to get you a ticket. Victor, I have not been able to get your college or cell phone number. Call me. Or email me your number if you can't get through. Shawn, I went by your apartment building (I was in the area). Nice place. You weren't home, though. I assume you still want to go to Knott's, so contact me. I'll need to come over and see your studio some other weekend. ![]() |
