I Was Dead Yesterday
It is, as I'm sure you're all aware, alchohol awareness week. Awareness week at college is different than it was at high school, though. The message used to be: "Don't drink." Now it's "Don't drink and drive." Both of which are probably very good ideas.

In recognition of this, the RSA crew was handing out tee-shirts outside the dorms. I, being a dedicated advocate of such social demonstrations and staunch supporter of the war against drunk driving, (and not wanting to pass up the opportunity for a free tee-shirt and Krispy Kreme), wore the shirt for the day, proudly displaying my silent protest against drunk driving.

A silent protest is the best I can come up with to describe the nature of the shirt, the back of which reads:

I am silent today because I chose to drink
and then I chose to drive and then
I died due to my choices.

Did you know that every 15 minutes
one person dies due to drunk driving?

Could you be next?

A powerful message. Especially with a whole bunch of people wearing the shirts - it could be like in one of those truth commercials where everyone gets a little asterisk popped over his head. Considering, however, that I seemed to be the only one on campus wearing such a shirt, I'm not sure how much of a statement it made. I mean, it's not like I talk much to people up here on a normal day. Not to mention that if I sat too far back in my chair, the shirt would most likely display only the top two lines, making me look like I was on some sort of police probation rather than a crusade to promote and preserve public safety.

Anyway, that's why you didn't get any major updates to the site yesterday; I was dead.

A Very Cool Thing
I've only got one thing to mention right now, but it's worth a comment of it's own. Several hours of intense Buddhist study has lead me to finding
this incredible site. It's not by any means a replacement for going to the library, but it certainly helps.

My Current Situation
I am not coming home this weekend. I need to research Buddhism like nobody's business, and no one has expressed any further interest in attending the MC Band Tournament with me. I will, however, most likely be coming home the first weekend of November, as planned. The Composer's Forum I'm going to this Monday will work for my concert report, so I no longer need to see the choir concert that weekend. And (woohoo!) it's free.
