How to Fix a Printer
Now that my second history exam has passed, I can finally get back to thinking about history again. I'll tell you - if you ever decide to write a paper on the changes in Buddhism as it was introduced to China, be aware that it will be the absolute, freaking most difficult paper to organize in the history of history papers. If you weren't aware, I am attempting to write such a paper, now, so I speak from experience. The Chinese took Buddhist ideas from India and then spit them back out again into an unimaginable variety of different forms, each evolving on its own even further, depending on a number of factors, many of which were completely independant from the influences on other forms of Buddhism at the time. I thought I'd throw together a little outline to help me through the process of actually writing the paper, and the thing has taken on a life of its own. Tomorrow, I begin to translate the entangled mess that I've put together into some sort of intelligent essay.

I went home this last weekend, and that was good. I fully believe I would have become irreversably insane without a good break from everything that seems to surround me up here. Plus, it gave me a chance to print out my history study guide for the test that was today, saving me from needing to transcribe everything by hand again. And that would have been a great help, if I had actually managed to print the correct section.

Luckily, I brought up a good color ink cartridge and managed to get my printer working - for the first page, anyway. I probably would have transcribed it all by hand had I known it was going to take even longer to get the printer to complete the job. As it was, I printed the first page and a half (in blue, of course), before the printer decided that it would be more fun to cut the current page off mid-sentence and spit out blank sheets of paper for a while.

Mind you, this was a very long while, and if you're familiar with the printer in question, you will know that it stubbornly refuses to deal with more than one sheet of paper at a time. Thus, I needed to stand next to the printer feeding it the same blank sheet of paper over and over again. At frequent intervals, I'd return to the computer and futily try everything in my power to cancel the print job. And when I say everything, I mean it. I'm talking full out voodoo magics here. Repositioning my monitor gnome. Giving him a friend... and another... until I had everything within reach sitting on top of the monitor for good luck. Looking for advice in fortune cookies. Lining the printer cable up with Venus' orbit. I had passed logical solutions long ago. Press the "Cancel print job" button? Of course that didn't work; it's much to obvious. Shut down the computer? The printer didn't seem to care. Turn off the printer? Yeah. That stopped it from printing for a while - until I turned it back on, anyway. Finally, as I was working on shutting off the running water to the dorms to see if that would help, the printer finally got bored with whatever the heck it was doing and let me print the final pages of my study guide. The printer is still not completely up to par, though, as it emits a horrendous chorus of loud thunking noises everytime it moves to print a line. I haven't gone to buy a black ink cartridge yet, because I'm not sure if I'll ever be attempting to print anything from my room again.

(More) Stuff You Don't Care About
I'm glad
Blizzard decided to release a new patch while I'm still on my self-imposed Warcraft ban.

I've started to read Ghost Cat pretty regularly. You'll want to start at the beginning if you're interested. It's just a little comic I was linked to through the MegaTokyo art forums. I'm not sure why I like it so much. Maybe it's because that ghost cat is so darned cute.

Public Service Announcement
I thought I would take the opportunity to remind all of you that elections are tomorrow (Nov 5) so be sure to read up on the issues and go out and vote. I hope that you have already heard about these up-coming elections, but in light of the fact that none of you seemed to remember Halloween (and I thought this was your favorite holiday), I thought a friendly reminder might be in order.

Right
I knew there was something else I wanted to mention. I actually voted yesterday. I didn't get my absentee ballot sent to me soon enough, though, so I needed to go to some special place. But at least I still got my sticker that way.

And Halloween remains my favorite holiday. In fact, let it be known that next year I will be back to my haunt making tradition; a trip of wild goats and their mothers won't be able to stop me.

Well...
Well, my faith in both major parties was effectively destroyed after a year of AP Gov, so I find myself reaching for the independent vote. Until one of those parties gives me a big ole' private donation or proves to be more competent than the other, that's where I stand. True, I have faith in humanity and their ability to self govern themselves, but just not like this...not yet anyway... maybe I've just been hanging around all y'all liberals a little too long ; ) But there's one thing standing between me and my vote, and it's not the fact I have no external political efficacy, it's because I forgot to register....whoops.

Oh, and if that trip of wild goats and their mothers do get in the way, call me over and we'll slaughter them together and hang their bloody corpses on your front lawn...it'll add an extra "oomph" to next years haunt.

What Is Irony?
Not registering to vote soon enough to participate in an election that includes a proposition to allow voters to register on voting day.

Victor November 5, 2002
That is...
That is pretty ironic. The things you learn the second it's too late... double whoops.

Good News and Bad News
Raymond, in September you wrote that you like to think that everyone reads your web site. I have good news and bad news. First, the bad news, my next-door neighbor has never seen your site, so not everyone reads it. Second, the good news, every day I get up at 5 am, read my e-mail, look at a couple of comic strips, and then go directly to your site. Some of the times I find the material a bunch of crap, but most of the time I am entertained and find the information very interesting. I enjoy vicariously attending college with you through your writings May I congratulate you on your writing style? I am extremely proud of you and the progress you have made.

I look forward to seeing you at our Christmas get together.

Raymond's Site
I come here whenever I check out all my friends' websites. So, that's about once every couple of days. Don't worry if some of your stuff is crap, because I'm sure all websites suck sometimes. The only part I don't get is the computer games part. Outside of that, yours is pretty good. Most people just go on and on about how some kid fainted in class, or how some white guy got a rice rocket. Too much crap. But anyway, your site is total pro-ness. I wish I could do stuff like that. Too bad I have a mac. *sigh* One day I will venture outside of my sheltered niche and learn how to use a PC. Until then, I'm stuck with my little white laptop.

You don't wanna know
Um...I've gotten into a strange habit of checking this site every day, sometimes several times a day during a busy post like the last one. Whenever I'm online and there's a spare 5 seconds, I find myself wandering my favorites list, and your's happens to be the most interesting one that's closest to the top. I try not to wonder how many times I've hit this site... just like how I try not to wonder how many times I've hit the Myst III site to check if it's been updated for some news on the DVD : )

Just so you all know
By all means, always feel free to congratulate me on anything you'd like whenever you feel that urge. And I guess I'll try to keep the crap down to a minimum since it appears that everyone but my granddad's neighbor has been reading this stuff.
