What Were You Expecting?
Of course I'm talking about my term paper again. Usually I write about something that's happened in the last couple days; well, the truth is that this stupid term paper is what has happened the last couple days.

If I had any degree of self control, you wouldn't be reading this. (I suppose the same might go for you, too, depending on the circumstances - but that's a different topic). My goal is to have the whole thing basically written by tomorrow evening, so I can attend the entire Back to the Future Trilogy at the TSU Theater guilt-free. And if I could actually keep myself writing the darned thing (instead of, for instance, posting on my website), that would be a very realistic goal. The problem I seem to have, though, is my freaking seven minute attention span. At frequent intervals, I find myself, almost subconsciously, popping up Internet Explorer and punching in a comment for my journal, or browsing through some news sites. I guess it's good that I'm keeping up with the times, but I have to think that this can't be the best for my studying. Then, after reading about laser guns and chameleon tanks for the sixth time, I think to myself, "What am I doing? I've got a paper to write!"

Then I think, "Hmmm... but I need to eat, sometime, don't I?" I surely can't let this paper deprive me of vital nutrients, so I head off to the kitchen to grab a peanut butter sandwich, or a cookie, or a Reese's peanut butter cup - just something not too big, because I know I'll be back again in a little while needing, once again, to keep myself healthy and fed. For my own good, of course.

It can take me a while, sometimes, to finally get back on track. But I assure you, I am a dedicated student, and in the end I always manage to focus and continue writing my paper.

For another seven minutes, anyway.

First Impressions
"Why wasn't anyone blaming bowling for warping their minds?"
I'm intrigued. A movie titled
Bowling for Columbine is not one that I would normally look into. But after seeing an overwhelmingly positive response at Rotten Tomatoes, I thought I'd take a gander at the official trailer. The movie is billed as a documentary, but obviously, it still needs to entertain, so you really can't be certain on how serious of a documentation this is. In any case, critics are generally agreeing that the issues raised are real and thought-provoking. I am, unfortunately, not familiar with Michael Moore, the reporter in and director of the film, so I don't really have anything by which to judge this project. He seems like he might be the kind of guy who'd have a pretty good following of people who hate him. Nevertheless, this may be something I end up renting sometime.

I am aware that this is about the twelvth time I've linked to Blizzard's site. And for that, I apologize. The new World of Warcraft site is up, and even though I know that none of you are in the least bit interested in the game, Blizzard's webdesign is still, in my opinion, the best on the net, and the site looks incredible.

That's us right?
When I mentioned the lasers and chameleon paint to my roommate, his first response was, "Now... the US owns that, right?" I replied, "Yep." He thought a second and then said, "Good, 'cause that's why I live in America, not Thailand." Amen.

Oh, that World of Warcraft stuff is gonna be the end of you Reige, I can see it now. Dip your hand in the cookie jar of MMORPGs and you ain't comin' out : P

RPG's and Me
That unexplainable addictive quality that role playing games seem to have is actually one of the reasons I rarely play them. After hours of doing effectively nothing, I realize that I have just spent hours doing... nothing. And it's often not even a fun nothing, like other time-wasting activities.

I think the folks behind the revolutionary role playing game, Statbuilder, do a pretty good job summing that up. Now, make me pay actual money for every hour that I do nothing and you can pretty much count me out. But just because I will never play the game doesn't mean I can't admire its incredible aesthetic values.

Now that I'm done dissing the entire genre, get back over there. They're starting to release music samples! Heh. Actually it's not that great, but I couldn't help but mention it, since I'm sure none of you were aware of this development.

We've always known
It's been no secret that cable companies have been scamming us by requiring purchasing crap channels before being able to get the good ones. Things might be different, now. Apparently, effective since early October, there is now a law that requires cable companies to allow customers to purchase channels a la carte.

Know what you mean
Well I sat down at the computer on this lovely (rainy) afternoon to write the research paper for my "Library Research and Report Writing" Class, (Don't you ALL wish you could have a class with that name?) but obviously I'm not. I thought oh I'll just check Raymond's web page, then I thought I should visit all of his links (except the Blizzard one of course), and of course now I have to post a reply. Its an endless cycle.

The real reason I'm writing is to possibly give you more insight into Michael Moore's new movie. Michael Moore is a very, very libral political activist. He focuses mainly on the unjust practices of major/multibillion dollar coorporations. He used to have a TV show (I think it was only aired for a brief period) where he would go with cameras to big businesses (or gov operations) and interview with the intention of making the executives lie, look stupid, and/or look cruel. For example I remember seeing a clip where he visted a tobacco coorporation before Christmas time and brought with him a group of people who had lost their voice boxes due to tobacco and they all sang Christmas carols. Another time, he visited the headquarters of Nike and interviewed one of the executives. He asked why Nike produces their shoes overseas, and the Nike representative told him that Americans don't want that kind of mindless labor. So Michael asks if enough Americans expressed a desire to work in a Nike factory, would he open one here. Of course the guy agrees he would consider it, sealing his lie, and Michael reveals a crowd of hundreds who want jobs.

His new movie will contain similar clips and interviews. The clip I saw him show when he came to talk at Humboldt had a guy standing in front of a missile head explaining how we need to teach our children to talk out our differences rather than resort to violence. A very humourous way to portray a serious issue. The movie will be entertaining and probably "thought provoking" as the critics claim.

Thats all. If you ever want info on another liberal activist, you know who to turn to. Remember I go to Humboldt State. Sorry if this post is too long.

Wow...
Hey, Julie. That's pretty funny actually. Looks like I'll have to go see it. : ) Anyway, what does it mean when you say you're from Humboldt State? Reputation for extreme liberalism?

I'm really really REALLY looking forward to college. But... do I have to take classes with titles like that? Or endless amounts of useless classes as prerequisites for classes I actually want to take? I was hoping I would be done with that as soon as high school is over.

Whoops?
Did I say "stupid" term paper? I swear I meant "enriching." I get those two confused all the time.
