The Rain Did It
It's been raining the last couple days up here, and the internet connection's been going up and down like a rollercoaster. I can only assume the two are related. Also oddly connected: we now have a huge cardboard store display for Disney's Dinosaur in the living room where a TV should be. That was set up mainly as a result of the internet's fickle demeanor. Nobody can play a sustained online game, download another couple songs, surf around to news sites, or chat on IM, and all of a sudden, everyone's out in the main room saying, "Hmmm... this place needs decorating." What better way to spend time getting to know your suitemates than assembling a wall-sized Dinosaur advertisement? The box said it could be set up in eleven minutes. I think we finally got it put together in just under thirty. But it was worth it. That is now the defining feature of the room. You throw up a Dinosaur advertisement that extends a good portion of the living room, and people tend to notice that.

My computer's been trying to annoy me recently, and in all fairness, it's doing a pretty darn good job of it. I'm sure you don't want to read about my silly computer problems, though, and any minor qualms I have seem trivialized even further by Jared's computer, which has been periodically slipping into unconciousness over the past week. Of course, that's certainly never stopped me in the past, so you get to read about my computer problems, anyway.

For one thing, as I mentioned, the internet's been playing hopscotch this weekend. That's a bit annoying only because the day after I've allowed myself to play Warcraft 3 again, I end up getting disconnected about every third game. And if this wasn't enough, I decided to fire up the ol' Starcraft engines again only to find that there is a compatability problem with Windows XP that prevents me from joining games with more than one other person. At least I can still play one-on-one's, but allied games are always where the fun has really been.

Okay, this is weird enough to be worth mentioning. You've seen my room setup, so you know that my computer is right at the foot of my bed. This works out wonderfully; I have found that to watch a movie, I can simply turn the monitor 90 degrees, move my speakers to either side at the head of the bed (making use of my audio extension cord - possibly the most useful thing I've brought up here) and watch my movie with awesome stereo sound from the comfort of my own bed. I was doing just that the other day, and in the middle of the movie, I noticed the right side of the screen becoming increasingly blue in hue. This concerned me a great deal, because the only time I had seen something like this before was on Brandon's TV where it had become a victim of an assault involving a magnet. Horrified that my monitor (which I have come to love dearly) might be permanently injured, I jumped up and turned it back so I could assess the damage. My assessment: There was no damage. Everything was peachy keen. So I casually dismissed the issue and turned the monitor back - only to see a blue hue on the side of the screen again. It still does this, and I still don't know why. Every time I turn the monitor, now, the side nearest the wall turns blue. I've checked the monitor connections - wiggled them around a bit, turned off all other electronics that might be affecting the monitor, had a pep-talk with my monitor gnome... You know, the usual. My best guess at this time is that the plaster and wood wall has somehow mysteriously gathered a anomalous magnetic charge as a result of extra-terrestrial intervention during the rain storm. It is, quite frankly, one of the strangest things I've seen in a while - since the last time aliens intervened in a rain storm, anyway. The end result is that I'm back to watching movies from my desk chair again.

It's Been A While
I've managed to dig up a whole lot of random junk in the last few days.

How had I never heard of
Savage before? This could be good - An RTS/FPS synthesis with one RTS commander organizing attacks of human controlled units. Then again, isn't this the same idea we mused about in high school, concluding there'd be no way to make it work? I've encountered a good sampling of online gamers, and I'll tell you, in an RTS setting there's a very good chance I'd prefer to have my units controlled by AI. Download the trailer if you're interested. The promising trailer music is also downloadable separately.

Since I know some of you don't frequent Victor's blog, and I'm even more sure that you don't keep up with bmwfilms.com, I will mention that the second film of this new series has been released. It's called Ticker.

NASA has probably made a good decision here. In fact, I was originally going to comment on their poor decision when they first announced the book. Let the conspiracy nuts believe what they want. It's not like it's anything to the rest of us.

How long do you think it'll take them to find a computer game to blame this one on? It'll certainly need to be a stretch, but I have every bit of confidence in our media.

I assure you; This is no laughing matter. Seriously. Listen to that local lady; these people are living in fear. Something must be done.

I thought this article was rather funny. Kind of like when we joked about plugging all the keyboards into the wrong computers at the school computer lab. Heh.

Lastly, I thought you all should know that we're doomed. But maybe it'll make a good movie.

Random yet strangely interesting...
Raymond, let me be the first to congratulate you on your terrific amount of effort (or results due to the lack thereof) in uncovering the some of the most random yet strangely interesting material on the web. How you do it? I really don't know... but I'm glad I don't need to, because I always have your site to go to. As I stack up on SPF 25,000,000 and assault the local squirrel population (pre-emptive self-defense), I wonder what your site is doing to my thought processes. Whatever it is, it's scary.

Anyway, lemme see... explosive razors. Closest tie I can think of is UT... albeit a strange interpretation. Next, maybe AVP for the Predator's inventory...and if you wanna reach way far back into 1997, Chasm: The Rift also had a razor projectile weapon... I dunno, that's all I can think of. As for your monitor, maybe there's something that was recently placed on the other side of the wall that was charged? Metal in the walls *could* have been have been charged from the rainstorm thereby producing a magnetic field, but...unless it looks like a lightning kinda storm and your walls are made of copper, I doubt it would be powerful enough to screw up your monitor. Maybe you could buy a cheap metal detector and find the source or something. Don't forget that degaussing works wonders, or you could put something in-between the monitor and wall in attempt to disrupt the field... or you could abstain from watching movies on your computer all together and use it for studying purposes only. yeah right.
