Sound Check
I just went to grab a free hamburger at the "Band and BBQ" in the quad. Any free hamburger is always good, even if those behind the event didn't realize that a single 8 ounce bottle of ketchup might not satisfy the demand. At least there was plenty of relish, though. Actually, a relish and mustard burger isn't too bad when you get down to it.

Then there was the band - the occasion for which this free food was being offered. The band obviously wasn't of the type that would play any music I would normally voluntarily expose myself to, so I can't really say anything about the overall quality of their music. It was somewhat amusing, though. At the beginning, the guys started drumming and playing their guitars, and one of them was up at the microphone singing something. I don't happen to know what he was singing, because the overwhelming volume of the accompanying accoustics seemed to nullify his efforts completely. Although, I assume this was some sort of a sound test, because after a brief performance, they stopped midway through the song, and the guy asked us, "Can you all hear the vocal? Can you hear the words?" I guess somebody must have said he could, because after adjusting some knobs and flipping some switches, they started the song again with the background volume about three times louder.

In Excess
First of all, how was I completely unaware of
Philosophy Club's continuance? I had, of course, assumed that the club had died the moment we (the only members to speak of) graduated and Mr. Scruggs, the club's adviser, transferred over to West View. Silly me. Thanks Jocelyn for keeping that going.

Also, there's a new link in my Freeware Programs section. XnView is a very nice program for viewing and converting graphics, and has support for batch conversions.

Rollercoaster Tycoon
I don't understand. Apparently, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 has been released. That's what they're calling it, anyway. I think there might be a couple new rollercoaster types or something, but really, this is getting ridiculous. They keep releasing commercial products that do little to nothing for the gameplay and are things that any other game company would release as free downloads. At least they've updated the graphics and interface, eh? I mean, check out the stunning jump in visual quality from from the original to the "sequel". And somehow, I just know this will be on our computer when I get back.

Human swiss army knife
He'd be a useful guy to be with if your car broke down, I guess. But I mean, gosh... I sometimes try to keep a couple rubber bands with me, and maybe a Kleenex or two... but there is a point where things just go too far. That line is drawn at a pedometer, apparently.

Financially irresponsible lady gets money
I'm glad things worked out well for this lady, and it's wonderful to know that there are some nice (or completely confused) people out there, but really - I can't believe people freaking sent her money. If you're going to give money to someone, give it to someone who's doing something that makes it worth sending your money to a complete stranger, not some lady who couldn't go without another pedicure and says things like: "spending $500 on a Gucci purse didn't seem like a big deal." Or find a nice charity to give a couple bucks to. Goodness knows there are enough of those. Or, heck, email me and I'll get you my address. Seriously though, there are a lot of independently owned websites out there that are costing the webmasters great deals of money to keep up. Find one of those when you get that urge to pay someone's debt. One site I used to go to shut down because the webmaster was paying literally thousands of dollars per month out of his pocket to keep it up, and he eventually couldn't support it anymore. I don't see any news story about people sending him money. The problem is that the people who really deserve strangers to randomly send them money don't typically ask for it. Maybe if this lady had been less selfish in her spending before she found herself in debt, I'd be a bit more open-minded. As it stands, though, she really should have thought a bit more before having her hair done.

Speaking of money...
Some restaurant guy bought a truffle for $62,000. I wonder if it tastes better than that puffy white chocolate thing I had on Prom night.

Eye Candy
I had some spare time and thought I'd experiment with some of the watercolor brushes in Photoshop. As a result, you can now find a new picture in my pixel-based computer graphics section. Photographic reference from Barry Needle's site.

Nice Job
Hey wow, now that's really well done for just "spare time" work right there. I could never do something like that. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but is there an attempt at lens flare in there? ; )

Thanks
Lens flare: If you're talking about the starlight streaky light stuff in the rock opening, yeah that was obviously intentional. I was just copying the photo, and I don't know enough about light to handle a bright light source like this any differently. If, however, you are referring to the reddish streak across the rock and the shading on the ground which both have extreme resemblance to lens flare, that was completely unintentional, and I even considered reworking those sections to eliminate that confusion. Lens flare is pretty much considered a no-no in the forums I've been to. Apparently, art should imitate life, not photography.
