Fashionably Late
I wish you all a belated merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Perhaps you've noticed the recent unnanounced lull in postings - coinciding, oddly enough, with the commencement of my exceedingly long winter break. The last two weeks, contrary to what you may have inferred from my site, have been very eventful. Too much, in fact, has happened, for me to write about any of it right now. You'd be more entertained reading a grocery list. (Actually, you might be entertained by one of my grocery lists, now that I think about it, but that's really not the point I was trying to make). Most of the stuff you'll want to know about will likely arise in future posts and comments, anyway, so don't worry yourself over that.

So, you wonder, why haven't I posted anything, then?

It recently occurred to me that I have never really thought about how long I'd keep this post thing going. My current file naming convention can accommodate enough posts take me through about the next five years. If I add another zero in there, I'll be set to continue posting well into my retirement. Most likely, updates will finally dwindle when I happen to stumble upon that elusive thing that some would refer to as "a life."

Writing, whether it is a planned and polished work, a trivial email, or (yes) one of these posts, takes time. It all goes back to why I don't like speaking. I so often say something that insinuates a meaning other than what I intend, and I would like to minimize those occurences as much as possible. This means planning, thinking about, and reading the post as I am writing it - all of which are done at my own leisurely pace. How frequently I post is therefore directly proportional to how much time I want to spend writing.

Usually I write because I have nothing better to do. (Actually, that's a lie. I almost always have something better to do. It's just that I have nothing else I'd rather be doing). That's how things work at college, anyway. I live in half a room with a kick-butt computer and high speed internet access. Since there's really not much that interests me outside of my sheltered hole, I have no reason to leave. When I find myself at a loss of activities, I scoot around the back-alleys of the internet looking for fun links and start hatching ideas for something new to write about. It's a time-killer activity.

At home, things are different. I've still got my computer; I've still got the internet; but I've also got a whole slew of other things to keep me occupied. Instead of firing up Notepad or browsing the internet for interesting news tidbits, I find myself relaxing with my cats, going out with friends and family, watching TV, or playing through Zelda without a sword. You know - "Normal people" activities (Well, most of them).

Not to mention that most of you were probably with me whenever something happened that I might have wanted to write about. Go figure. I start hanging around actual people, and I end up wasting a good supply of verbal witticisms.

Comic Relief
My
sketchbook is up and running. I might even update it every once in a while now that I've got my Wacom Graphire2 tablet to sketch on. For now, I've posted some joint-effort comics. The idea was that two of us would switch off drawing panels. Eh.. don't expect too much.

Ever wonder what the Lord of the Rings would be like if it had been written by someone else? Either way, you should check out this incredible forum thread. I read through the authors I recognized in the first four pages or so, and many of them are very nicely done. Highly entertaining.

MAVAV.org. Apparently some college course required students to create and document a hoax. This one, incidentally, managed to work its way to several of the sites that I frequent.

RAYMOND!
Greetings from Mississippi!
While I was in DC over the holidays i couldn't access my email. So i didn't get your email until I got back. Why couldn't i read my email? because like an idiot i left my outlook express running at home while i was gone so MY computer received my email (and i didn't leave a copy of it on the server).

Anyways, cool cool website. I noticed that all this is done in HTML? That's pretty amazing. I hope i can be a part of the "Important People" section. After all, i did send you my picture already formatted to 65x75 and with a tint of blue. Sorry if the picture is too contrasty...i know you can't even see my eyes. Oh well...one day i'll take a better one.

Anyways, I'm going to run and check out the rest of your site....the writing, art, music, other, and links links. If you get time you should post on my site. My site is pretty simple...i only have Post A Message, and pictures of trips and such on mine. (the links, and trips links don't work yet) I don't have pictures for people who post...but perhaps i should start that...or even make neat little login boxes or something. I need to work on mine...haven't worked on it in months. (besides adding pictures). Anyways, check it out: www.jakerad.com you can tell your family to post as well.

Zelda...
Zelda without a sword. That's just...well...almost sacriligious ain't it? Ah well, I always thought the boomerang was cooler anyway. Oh, and why isn't there better resolution shots for our comics? There's some serious artistic detail in there that's being lost ; )

Speaking of Zelda...
Check out some of the gameplay videos of the GameCube Zelda from divx.com. (The mature filter blocks a couple of them for some reason, so you'll need to turn that off. Don't worry - 'Zelda' is a safe search term - when I checked, anyway). I adamantly maintain that Zelda's entry into a 3D world was the death of the series, but those are still some of the most amazing gameplay graphics I've ever seen.

And yes, all of my site is pure HTML, written in Notepad. Everyone's always surprised when I tell them that, but it's really the only thing I've ever known.
