Welcome To My Home...
March 9, 2003It's Not That Far I went over to the TSU theater last Thursday to see Punch-Drunk Love. All I knew at the time was that it was some Adam Sandler movie, and it's doing pretty darn well over at Rotten Tomatoes. It's a good thing I got there relatively early, because about five minutes later, the theater was packed. It was almost as crowded as it was during Bowling for Columbine. People were laying on the floor up front and sitting in the isles. I was a bit surprised, to say the least. I mean... we're talking about Adam Sandler, here. It turns out that the movie was some artsy-fartsy thing. One of those movies that looks like it was done by a film student with a home video camera (for artistic value, of course). It probably has some deeper meaning, too. I wouldn't know, though. Deeper meanings in movies seem to completely elude people of my inferior level of sophistication. Frankly, I found it boring. Of course, I didn't really need to say any of that. I know none of you are in danger of going out of your way to see an Adam Sandler movie. But that brings me to an interesting point. I was walking over to the theater for the movie, and I was thinking. I've seen every free movie that the TSU has shown. I even wasted two hours of my life sitting through Austin Powers 3, and here I was walking across campus to an Adam Sandler movie. I wondered. Would I still go to these things if I didn't live right here? Probably not, I concluded. If I actually needed to get out and drive somewhere, even if it was just five minutes away, to see the Double Feature of Doom, or Blazing Saddles, or (yes) Punch-Drunk Love, I'd still be at home sitting in front of my computer. Perhaps I would've even posted something on Thursday. But it's just so easy to go to these things, and it's free, so I almost feel like I'd be missing out if I didn't go. So I do. And I did. Afterwards, I ran into Justin, who had apparently come with a few of his friends from the dorms. I figured I'd head back with them, so naturally, we all went out to the parking lot, piled into the car they had 'come' in, and drove the two-and-a-half blocks around campus and back to the dorms. I think we spent more time parking than in transit. ![]()
March 9, 2003In Summary I went home this weekend and noticed that we had the contents of a fortune cookie posted on our refrigerator door. It could've been there for years, knowing my house, so I found it interesting that I just now noticed the small slip of paper. AND YOU WILL FIND IT Fortune cookies don't lie. More wisdom. While we're on the subject... Monitor Calibration. It has come to my attention (although not by any of you, I assure you - you're all much too polite to say anything). But I digress. It has come to my attention that several of you probably could not even see my last digital painting due to its somewhat limited light source, which makes for a rather dark overall picture. If this sounds like you, go calibrate your monitor, close the curtains, and take another peek. About the monitor calibration: You should be able to squint and see all 11 distinctive shades of grey. Light sources in the room and reflections also have a huge impact on what you're seeing on the screen. Blogging. I just want to reassure you that RF Home is and will continue to be a respectable web journal site. You can rest at ease knowing that I would never sell out. Doing so would lie in direct opposition of my stout journalistic principles, and moreover, it would insult my readers. So if there are any big companies out there who would even think something so inconceivable as paying me to use RF Home as an advertising venue... er.. email me so I can... uh.. deal with you appropriately. (Although, somehow, I don't think I fall under their definition of "key influence bloggers"...) Big Honkin' Laser Gun. I think the subject pretty much says it. ![]() |
