I require at least three funny things to happen to me a week to keep this place interesting. That doesn't seem like it should be a problem. Funny things happen to me all the time, right?

Well, apparently, they don't - I just think everything's funny. That's why, when you're around me, I might just start laughing for no easily apparent reason. Something undescribably hilarious has just occurred, and I am, evidently, the only one who's noticed it.

I've actually been verbally forbidden from laughing in my art class. Now, of course, I do it just to spite him. Although I might know how that came about. It's difficult, sometimes, to tell whether my art teacher is serious or joking, so I just started to assume that he was always joking. It's more fun that way. Now art is like a comedy bistro.

Of course, any attempts to relate such humor to others (namely, you guys), are futile. I just come off seeming weirder than I already do. All because I am, evidentally, the only person who finds it humorous to compare a group critique of an art project to the act of watching a television program.

Maybe I'm just the only one who hasn't seen that show.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I hope you're wearing green. My site is. (Hit refresh)

Sketchbook. In case you missed it, I'm
updating it daily. You can hold me to that.

Our President. I felt I should mention that he'll be talking about stuff again tonight at 5pm.

The Lost Vikings. Blizzard's released a flash demo in celebration of the game's ten year anniversary and GBA release. I must say - it's a great game. They recommend you have a pretty darn good computer to run it, though.

Return of the King. From Dark Horizons: "Peter Jackson is saying that the great battle must be several times larger than that of Helm’s Deep." There's something to anticipate.

MIB. Apparently, they're making a third one. I thought they did a pretty good job of killing any further sequel opportunities with the second one. We can assume one thing for certain, though: they won't make a fourth. I mean, face it. 'MIVB' just looks stupid.

The Bone Collector. I just saw it. It's a good serial killer movie; better than Se7en. I'd recommend it if you're into that kind of thing. Although, you might want to stay away from it if you ever plan on taking a taxi in your life...

AN UPDATE:

Tremors 4. It's coming October 2003.

This may sound insensitive...
But I'm really pissed at ABC for replacing The Practice with a news special. They've been hyping this episode for like two weeks.

We heard the address. We're aware of the situation. This thing's been going on for quite some time now; there's nothing new that they absolutely need to tell us right now. WAIT forty-eight hours, and THEN, there will be cause for a "special news update." Right now, they're just blowing off the same crap they've been saying for the past year.

In any case, if you didn't catch the address, you can get the transcript through just about any news site. Here it is at CNN.

Video of a portion of the address is up at the Feedroom.

Look at the stuff I put up with
This was an email from The HorrorDome in regards to my Halloween site:

Hello,

We noticed you have a following faces page of your own now. We would appreciate credit for this prop or at least for the name. As you know The Following Faces Prop (As we call it ) has been up on TheHorrorDome.com for five years now. It only would be the right thing to do.

Thank You

And my response:

I thank you for taking the time to look through my website, and I recognize your concern.

As I'm sure you're aware, the following faces effect is not a new concept. Reversed face props are sold at novelty stores; Disneyland's Haunted Mansion has sported the effect since the 1960's; and a number of Halloween prop websites include such an effect.

The HorrorDome is also not the only place in which I have seen the effect referred to as "following faces." This includes Stuart Lansborough's Puzzling World, which has a room full of what he refers to as "following faces." While it is not clear when they introduced the "following faces," the establishment has been operational in New Zealand since 1973, leading me to believe that the term "following faces" was in use well before the inclusion of the prop at The HorrorDome five years ago. I have also seen commercially available reversed face props that were called "following faces."

Because of the long history of the effect, I cannot give credit to The HorrorDome for creating it. I will consider changing the name of the effect on my site, although, right now, I cannot give credit to The HorrorDome for the term 'following faces,' since it seems to me to be a commonly known, used, and accepted term for that effect.

Thank you for your time.

I already changed my link description to his company propoganda the last time he emailed me. I'm done being amiable.

AN UPDATE:

His response (These guys are fast):

The Following Faces was coined by one of our Prop Builders and as far as we know it has been used by us and only us, but on review of the site (http://www.puzzlingworld.co.nz/hall_faces.htm) we can understand your point. We assure you that the term "Following Faces" has only been created by TheHorrorDome.com. We will leave it up to you wether you should give credit where credit is due.

I like the tone of this email better, but it still doesn't exactly qualify as a 'friendly' correspondance. Am I wrong to dislike having a guilt trip thrown on my shoulders if I don't give credit to his site? Perhaps I should credit Mr. Lansborough for the coining of the term, since he has the earliest record I've found of its use.

Concerning Halloween (A Cool Thing!)
The very polite owner of The Gruesome Magazine has also just emailed me (it's odd how I always go months with nothing and then get a whole bunch of emails at once), and she wants to include my building instructions for my Magic Production Box in an upcoming issue.

(An excerpt):

Should you grant permission please let me know if you would like me to use the info directly from the web site or if you would rather e-mail me a copy. Any PC compatible format is fine. Also if you have any images that you would like to include feel free to send them as well (high resolution is best).

Full credit will of course be given and you will receive a copy of the issue your article appears in. You may also include any contact information you desire with the article. Please note that material may be edited for clarity and/or length.

I would like to thank you for your time, whether or not you decide to allow us to run your how-to in the magazine.

After digging up information on following faces and such, I don't have time to reply to her right now, but I'm thinking it'll be in the affirmative.

Heh. Maybe I should actually start updating that site again.

Yeeeap
Hey, sorry I haven't been posting. Finals have kind of sucked up all my time. But have no fear, at least one person (me you idiot...) knows that you update your sketchbook. I may not have the time to look at it each day... but I know it's there. And your humor is not lost on the world. I do understand it. I also laugh..... well... we laugh.... for no apparant reason all the time! It's okay. You're not alone. You're not crazy..... we're all crazy here.... bwahahah....

I actually own...
I actually own The Lost Vikings game for the Sega Genesis. My Grandma bought it for me because if I was going to be playing video games, it might as well be about Swedish people. Although, I don't think she would have bought it if she knew if they story was about three vikings being abducted by aliens.

I guess you got both good and annoying news about your Halloween site. I wouldn't give credit the thehorrordome for "following faces". It isn't their term and it definitely isn't their idea for a prop, so they shouldn't get any publicity. Following faces is such a general term. Heck, even Microsoft has basically lost the copyright of Windows. Also, didn't they at one point want to charge for instructions? Anyway, you haven't done anything wrong, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I've been there
I visited Puzzling world when I was in NZ. Their room of following faces (or should I say "room of faces that follow you?") was actually one of their best attractions; their holograms were interesting as well. Well when I think of following faces I think first of Disneyland, then of NZ puzzling world, and now, of course, I think of the horrordome. I guess they got their recognition after all.
