Keep Smiling
I went to Disneyland yesterday. Not that I feel the need to inform you every time I venture from my own artificial world into somebody else's, but something needs to keep the posts moving. I haven't been in the best of moods recently, so I thought it might be a good idea to go somewhere where I could perhaps quell my recently revived distaste for the general human population. A happier place. And what better place to go for that than the self-proclaimed happiest place on Earth?

After leaving a sufficiently vague AIM away message and grabbing my sketchbook - which, by now, goes pretty much everywhere with me whether I intend to actually sketch in it or not - I headed out. There was a band playing at the entrance when I got there, so I sat and sketched for a short while, but other than that, my pencil was idle. I'm into anatomy studies again, since my books are all due in about a week, and for some reason, it just doesn't seem natural to be sitting in the heart of Main Street, amidst live entertainment and a steadily increasing number of dancing three-year-olds, drawing skeletons.

So basically, I just kept the book in my bag for most of the time. That's no big deal. Actually, the biggest annoyance with bringing my sketchbook to Disneyland is not carrying it around with me, but needing to open it all up everytime I enter the park so that the nice people at the entrance can see that I'm really not trying to smuggle in a nuclear warhead. I assume that's what they're looking for. Anything smaller I could just leave in my pockets should I want it to penetrate the entrance gates. It may seem trivial, but for some reason, this represents a major conflict for me. I'm thinking... "Hmm... maybe I should go over to California Adventure and grab a fast pass." And as if they don't already make it as inconvenient as possible to park hop, now it's like "Oh, wait... that means I'll need to let them dig through my darn bag again." And they do dig through it. I carry two pencils and a sketchbook, and they need to look really carefully to make sure there's nothing behind or under that sketchbook that could pose a hazard to their happy guests.

Maybe I missed that commercial announcing their change to being the most paranoid place on Earth, but I have to mention this other thing. I was walking back from Splash Mountain, staring up at the Haunted Mansion and not paying a whole lot of attention to where I was going - as often is the case as I walk through Disneyland. All of a sudden, this guy in some official looking uniform frantically pulled me off course. "Hey! You stay over on this side, sir!" I assume he was referring to the implied division formed by him and about three trashcans that had been scattered in the area. I said "okay," and tried briefly to determine which international law I had just violated. Another girl started to walk into the area, and he shot in front of her like a some defensive football player. I couldn't see anything special about the area that this guy seemed to be protecting with his life, so I stuck around to see if I could determine what his deal was. Eventually a whole mess of other officially uniformed guys came in, and finally one with a dog. Apparently, a purse was found there, and that was cause to alert just about everyone spare the National Guard. I guess it turned out okay. After the dog came, they worked up enough nerve to pick up the small recepticle and open it. Then everyone just left. Crisis averted.

But it makes you think... if someone ever does want to cause some trouble at Disneyland, let's hope he doesn't think to bring a purse in to divert the authorities. Of course, it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle of having it checked at the entrance.

Coming Soon
Smoking. Score one for the good guys. No more smoking on the balconies! Although Bryan seems inclined to ignore the new rule.

Movies. May's a good month. X2 (May 2nd). The Matrix Reloaded (May 15th). And Finding Nemo (May 30th). June's dead. But then in July, we've got T3 (July 2nd), and Pirates of the Carribean (July 9th)... and then pretty much nothing through the rest of the summer.

Games to Movies. I'm sure we're all eagerly awaiting the upcoming Pac-Man movie. Check out this
filmforce article to see what other games are being brought to the big screen.

LOTR. Here's a slightly different take on The Lord of the Rings.

Great Ideas in Science. It seems we're planning on waging war against... the moon. Am I the only one who thinks this might not be a good idea?

Planning ahead
Well, war against the moon did surprise me but then I realize that they are just planning ahead. Think about it, oil will be gone in about 75 years, then what do we power our cars with? Hydrogen of course. Big oil becomes big hydrogen and then all of a sudden we need more hydrogen then we have. Plus, we'll be running out of fresh water by then because of the hydrogen cars, so we'll need all the water and hydrogen we can get. Since we can't free the countries in the middle east to stabilize a hydrogen supply, we need to go liberate the moon and it's supply of hydrogen.

And in case I don't see you...
I'm at home for the weekend. Here's a bunch of random stuff to keep you occupied.

Telemarketers. Learn how to sue a telemarketer. Along with this lawyer's story is loads of information on current telemarketing laws.

Elephant Art. Pictures of elephants painting. It reminds me of a Bill Peet Book.

Dylan Cole Studios. I have come across another matte painter's website that's definitely worth checking out. Right now, he's doing work for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Microwave Experiments. Videos, pictures, and links of stuff you've always wanted to put in a microwave... but haven't.

Politically Correct. And what if THIS offends ME? Do we not care about insulting the intelligent population? I think they may be rapidly becoming a minority now.

Photography. You may recall a while ago, us trying to decide on a recurring subject for my mom's digital photography project. I don't know why I didn't think of photographing 'things on rabbits heads'. It just seems so natural now.

I have returned
Alias. I hope you watched it. Quite a bit happened... it's interesting how they like to completely overhaul the entire premise of the show every once in a while.

The Practice. I thought it was lovely that every commercial for the season finale of The Practice promised that the episode would deliver "the biggest bomb shell ever" and then revealed it in the next sentence. Hopefully there's more to that.

Politically Correct. The insanity continues. Honestly. Where do they get this stuff?
